Learn how to "throw" a pot on a spinning wheel!
£35 per person/pot
Maximum group size: 4
Timing: approximately 40 minutes per person/pot. For example, a group of 4 people would take 3 hours. We recommend groups book a pottery painting activity table so you can decorate a matching mug, bowl or plate whilst waiting your turn on the wheel - there would be an additional cost for this activity.
Minimum age: 7yrs
Package includes: one-to-one, personalised tuition at our potters wheel, clay, glazing and firing. Booking T&Cs below.
Step 1: Creating your pot on the wheel. One-to-one tuition per person, per pot. One person at a time. Your tutor will talk you through each step of the process, while you get hands-on with the clay.
Step 2: Add coloured glazes to your pot while it is still on the wheel, using a banding technique (shown in the photo).
Step 3: Leave your pot with us to dry out naturally and completely - slowly, over several days, or it will crack. It will then be dipped in a clear glaze top-coat - and left to dry for 24 hours. The base of your pot will be cleaned so that it won't stick to the kiln shelf during firing. Your pot will then be fired in our kiln, slowly ramping up to a temperature of 1000°C, then cooling back down again very slowly - otherwise it will crack. This can take 2-3 days. Firing gives your pot strength and, makes the surface super shiny, waterproof and foodsafe. Ta Da! your pot is ready for everyday use.
Step 4: Collect your pot from the Studio two weeks after your Potters Wheel Experience and take it home to use for picnics, party nibbles, movie night snacks... (not suitable for microwaves or dishwashers).
